Pregnancy Tests

For your convenience, Campus Health Pharmacy now offers the One-Step Pregnancy Test for under six dollars.

The One-Step Pregnancy Test is a simple, 99.9% accurate, and rapid pregnancy test for home use.  You may perform the One-Step using your midstream urine.  Or, you may collect your urine in a cup and follow the optional procedure*.

Soon after a woman becomes pregnant, her body produces a hormone called HCG which can be detected in urine.  The One-Step Pregnancy Test uses sensitive and specific antibodies to test for HCG in urine.  You may test your urine as early as the first day you miss your period.  You may test any time of the day.  However, the first morning urine usually has a higher level of HCG.  Drinking large amounts of liquid before testing may dilute the HCG in your urine.

Directions for performing the pregnancy test using your midstream urine:

  • Just before use, remove the test stick from the foil pouch.  Uncap the stick.
  • Holding the test stick by the thumb grip, place the absorbent end downward and directly into your urine stream after the first portion of urine has passed, or in midstream.  Urinate on the absorbent end of the stick at least 3 seconds.  Do not urinate on the windows.
  • Re-cap the test stick and place it on a flat surface while the test develops.  During this time, you may notice a blue color moving across the windows.
  • You can read the result in the result window as soon as a red line appears in the control window (2-3 minutes).  (The red line shows that you performed the test correctly.)   Do not read the results after 30 minutes have passed.
*Optional Procedure:
  • Use a clean, dry cup to collect your urine.
  • Dip the entire absorbent end of the test stick into the urine for at least 3 seconds.
  • Re-cap the test stick and place it on a flat surface while the test develops.
Interpreting the results of your pregnancy test:
  • One blue line (dark or faint) in the result window and one red line in the control window is a positive result and you are pregnant.  Contact your doctor as soon as possible.  The earlier you see your doctor, the better it is for you and your baby.
  • No blue line in the result window but one red line in the control window is a negative result and you are not pregnant.  If your period does not start within a week, you may have miscalculated the day your period was due.  A negative test may result from a very early pregnancy with low levels of HCG.  If you suspect you are pregnant, wait a few days and use another one-step pregnancy test.  If the test is still negative, see your doctor.
  • If after 10 minutes, no red line appears, or the background color makes reading the red line impossible, the result is invalid and the test should be repeated.
